It allows you to write a short description about yourself, the person behind the profile. You can enter up to 500 characters into the field. BBCodes don't work there unfortunately. Links that are pasted without the url BBCode are parsed.
Just go to your User Control Panel and navigate to the "Profile" tab. The "About me" field is at the bottom. When you are done with writing your short bio, confirm by clicking on the "Submit" button.
I combined mine with a link to the introductory post in the
Introduce Yourself area.
