Regulars' Table

I'm glad that your writing is going well :sn-2:
smr1957 wrote: Thu Jan 19, 2023 2:39 pm As regards my reset, I am doing very little on that right now - procrastination is really at its peak as far as that is concerned - LOL!
I can relate to that a lot. Procrastination is a skill that I've perfected in my life :sn-4: :sn-9:.

But today I managed to do a thing that I postponed for several months: I made an appointment with the gynecologist (a new one).

I thought about deleting the paragraph about my period in the previous post. Then I found this article:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK565666/

The "Menstrual Activism" part at the very end of the linked article put me right.

I made a big part of the paragraph in question hidden to guests instead because I still don't feel good when everyone can read what I wrote about this particular topic.

If you are interested how I hid the content: I just put it inside a hide tag ;).

Well, I don't have any advice or suggestions on this. I'm a man after all. But ... isn't the "Regular's Table" supposed for those who are considered "regulars"? And so, guests will not be able to read it? Or, am I wrong?

Anyway, I hope you get it sorted out with your gynecologist alright!

I never thought that way. When you go to a traditional bar in Germany, especially in rural areas, there's often a Stammtisch ("Regulars' Table"). When the regulars are discussing at their meeting point, guests definitively will overhear what they are saying :D.

Jokes aside, technically I can't block the access to this topic for guests without blocking their access to the Seating Area altogether because phpBB's permissions are forum based and not topic based.

Might be overhearing the regulars at the Stammtisch, but should not actually intervene in any way. Overhearing is something else as reading! Maybe The Lounge should be for members only?

If you look at this from the literal side, I agree, that's not the same as reading. The title of the thread represents a metaphor like all areas in the Lounge. When I started the thread I had the more modern meaning of Stammtisch in mind.

Quoting from the Wikipedia article about Stammtisch:
In the city

In urban areas, especially in the late 1990s, different kinds of Stammtisch groups have been established acting like a loose, informal club of people sharing similar interests on a specific topic. They are meant for socialising, exchange of experience and networking (e.g. Stammtisch for parents). Networking organisations such as clubs for marketers or entrepreneurs often call their regular events, which are also open to non members, a Stammtisch.

"Regulars' Table" is the closest expression I could find for this get-together:
Although not used popularly, the word itself is an idiomatic expression which does not have an English equivalent. The nearest would be 'regulars' table'.
(the quote also comes from the Wikipedia article I linked before)

If I had made this thread only visible to members, I would have mentioned in the first post right from the start ;)

I'm sorry that the description in the first post wasn't clear enough and caused this misunderstanding.

Edit:

I realize just now that I read over your suggestion to make the Lounge only visible to members. I can't decide this yet because I need to think through it.

I'm not very good with metaphors in other languages than Dutch.

The place for confidential conversations is the Internal Discussion section of the site - everything else should be open to all to read.
