Don't get the AE upgrade if you don't want to use it. It's no big deal. If I can't get the mod completed, so be it! I'll just get the island crashed down in some other realm and adapt the story. Sometimes you just have to be creative!
I admit, I wasn't sure if I should buy it as I only use a very limited number of mods. But I'm also a mod author. I can't test my mods if they are compatible with the AE Upgrade. I don't want wait until people tell me that the mod in question is not compatible its contents anymore. It can take weeks or months to receive these kind of reports (I assume if your mod is popular enough you will get compatibility and bug reports faster).
Yesterday, I finally took the time to look at the listed contents of the AE Upgrade (I don't know why I didn't do this earlier) and was quite surprised that one half of the plugins sparked my interest at least.

That's a legit reason. I'm particularly fond of Goldenhills Plantation, quite near the Coffee House and Rorikstead, although the farming part could have been done better. With Illia (Darklight Tower) as my steward, the farm provides me with a pretty stable dayly income. The farm is a nice player home, nothing fancy and I prefer it over the HF homes. I'm just thinking about a place to store all those special items. Legend of the Dragonborn is a bit over the top for me, as well as most of the other museum type player homes nobody is going to visit.

After a new clean Skyrim SE install and reverting to an earlier version of the Floating Island, everything is back to normal. No CTDs, but my distant view of the island is gone.

Is it a legit conclusion that LOD generation ruined the latest version of the ESP? And ... that LOD generation can't handle multi-level exteriors?

I think you really need someone like Sheson for this - or, at least, someone much more versed in this level of modding than we are. Probably would be a good idea to post about this over on AFK - someone like Arthmoor might know, or some of the other extremely experienced people there.

I think that would be a good idea. But I don't want to bypass Selene on this, as she wanted to check it out! I've got time and not in a hurry to publish the mod. I also have some additional ideas that I want to implement, such as a few practice dummies with skill increase, but skill increase depending on the type of weapon and base damage of the weapon. Not a default increase of 8 XP per hit, but skill increase depending on distance when using a bow or crossbow. Also, the player should be behind a fence while shooting the bow or crossbow. Of course, anything can be cheated, but that's not my problem.

This afternoon I have used Corinze's latest navmeshed version and corrected all small issues in the ESP.

Etienne and the gang got some pictures back from the imagrapher imp today, and here's one:

Yeah, rub it in, Steve! Today had to do a clean re-install of the game and get my mods moved in! But ... running as expected again! :sn-3:

Still, Happy New Year to Etienne and the gang!

The CTD was caused by deleted Navmeshes. As soon as I removed the Navmesh entries in question from the plugin, I could fast travel to Fort Greymoor and walk to the floating island from there, both without CTD.

I sent Altbert a PM with a link to the cleaned Esp and a text file with instructions so he can reconstruct the steps I took.

Now a completely different topic... I spontaneously bought two tablecloths for my "new" table.

I want to keep this one:

and will return this one tomorrow:

Back at home, it turned out that the pattern is distracting me too much.

That's great that you found that, Selene! It will save Albert a lot of hassle!
