Coming back to Vvardenfell

Post by tigerseptim »

At first (when I was a boy) Morrowind was amazing. I had nothing to compare it to. But coming back after several years, I can see the cracks.

I started my character, making her a bard. "It's the perfect class," I thought...but no. Apparently magic skills below 20 are useless. I'd train them, but where do I get the gold?

I joined the Mages' Guild, did errands for Ajira as usual; she suggested I talk to Edwinna, so I did. Eventually she asked me to nick a certain book from the guild hall in Vivec. I eventually tracked it down and nicked it, thinking I'd get off scot-free. Nope. Apparently taking a coda flower is a crime punishable by death. (If only the little red hand icon from Oblivion would appear.)

Edwinna also gave me 250 gold to buy something from Jobasha's Rare Books. She neglected to mention that 250 is the exact retail price, and merchants here in Vvardenfell are allowed to charge extra because they don't like my face or something.

I tried to butter Jobasha up, only to find the odds stacked against me. Have I mentioned that chance plays too much of a role in this game?

So I said, "All right, let's make a barbarian and join the Fighters' Guild." I did so, scrounged up enough money to buy some used heavy armor, emphasis on "used". I had my Orc butt handed to me, got the armor repaired and was hit by an assassin. Okay, now I have some great light light armor; it's rated much higher than what I started with.

No, actually. Each piece was rated 15 or 17, but all together they're just a bit better than the heavy armor. Plus the assassin wasn't supposed to jump me until later.

Hey Bethesda, here's an idea. Why don't you use those decades of experience to create a system that actually works? And since you're obsessed with remakes anyway...
May your road lead you to warm sands. Also, don't forget your shoes.
