Modding on the Spectrum

I guide you through the steps of writing your first posts and becoming a member. Since May 6, 2023, you don't need to be a member to write a post (see announcement). However, being a member gives you access to additional features such as definable avatar images, changing user preferences and settings via the User Control Panel, liking a post (thumbs up button), uploading attachments, your personal user gallery, private messaging, emailing of fellow users and more.

Becoming a member
You decide how open you want to be. If you don't want to call things as they are, that's fine. You also have the possibility to make very personal subjects inside a post only visible to members using the hide BBCode. You don't know what BBCodes are? Don't worry. We come to that later.
Suitable areas and threads for your first posts are for example the Introduce Yourself area, the Regulars' Table and the other topics of the Topic Spotlight section. The Regulars' Table is a place to talk about how our day was, what we did accomplish, what did grind our gears and want is planned next and so on. It can be seen by all users and all users can take part in. The concept behind this thread is the modern meaning of the German word "Stammtisch":

You can either format a text by marking it and click on the corresponding button in text formatting buttons bar or put the text inside a BBCode.
What is a BBCode
From the main FAQ of the board:
BBCode is a special implementation of HTML, offering great formatting control on particular objects in a post. The use of BBCode is granted by the administrator, but it can also be disabled on a per post basis from the posting form. BBCode itself is similar in style to HTML, but tags are enclosed in square brackets [ and ] rather than < and >. For more information on BBCode see the guide which can be accessed from the posting page.

The first area contains everything related to the forum. You only can reply to the topics in the Information & Annoucements section and can't start new topics in this section. You can create new topics in the Introduce Yourself and Feedback and Suggestions sections though.

Regarding Skyrim Special Edition, our member Avrie regularly posts mod reviews in the Coffee with an old Khajiit thread.
Neurodiversity
If you are not sure what condition suits you best, you can post in the General Discussion in the Neurodiversity subforum.
In the "Mental Health" subforum you can post things which are bothering you. Together we find solutions.
Please keep in mind that it's possible to have several conditions at once like I have (I will talk about that in my own "Introduce yourself" post in more detail).

How can I reverse the order of posts so that newest posts appear first in a thread?
You can change the order under User Control Panel > Board preferences > Edit display options. Set the "Display post order direction" to "Descending".
Where can I create personal albums in the user galleries?
They are not created in the user galleries. You find this function in the "Gallery" tab under your User Control Panel.
How many images can I add to the user galleries?
Miscellaneous album: 10 images per user
Personal user album: 30 images per user, unlimited number of subalbums
How can I embed YouTube videos?
This is done via the "youtube" and "youtube_be" BBCode tags. The first one is for normal YouTube links and the second one for the "youtu.be" links

It takes only a few moments to register.
If you click on "Register", you will be presented with the forum's terms. They may sound a bit harsh (I did not write them; they came with the forum software) but they are necessary to be on the safe side legally. Click on "I agree to these terms" to go to the next step which directs you to the registration window.
Now you have two options:
Option 1: register using social login

Option 2: the classic forum registration
"Username", "Password" and "Confirm password" are mostly self-explanatory. Choose a strong password due to account safety reasons (you can use password generators if you want). Write down your username and password somewhere so it doesn't get lost or use a password manager.
Yes, you need an email address. It's required for sending the confirmation email to you which includes the account activation link. There are several email providers like Yahoo, Google (Gmail), GMX and many more.
The "Administrators can email me information" setting is optional.
Setting "Privacy Policy Stement read and accepted" to "No" will give you an error message.
Set your preferred timezone and the time of the posts and topics will be adapted accordingly.
The last two drop-down lists are part of an anti-(spam)-bot measure. Not changing them will also give you an error message. If you don't want to disclose this information, choose "Not telling" from both drop-down lists.
Enter the letters and numbers of the "Confirmation code" exactly as it appears (they are case insensitive) into the last field.
Check if the information you provided is correct and hit the "Submit" button.
OUTDATED
A confirmation email (Welcome to "Modding on the Spectrum") is sent to you. It can take some moments until it's in your inbox. If it's not there, check your spam folder. After you have opened the email, please click on the link below "Please visit the following link in order to activate your account" to activate your account.
